Topic Statement
The Mayans created one of the most successful civilizations in history it was a civilization that lasted over two thousand years. The Mayas were on of the greatest civilization in the Americas . They were highly advanced in astronomy, architecture, the arts and mathematics.They had the most advanced writing system in the western hemisphere at that time. In addition they designed a calender out of these aspects the Mayans society was so sophisticated instead Mel Gibson chose to display or to demonstrate and to highlight mass human sacrifice to portray the Mayans as violent Indians and uncivilized.
Apocalypto is a tale based on a fictional narrative from the Mayans land that demonstrates a negative view of the Mayans. Everything the the movie gives action ans excitement to the audience but Gibson manages to dehumanize the Mayans.Violence and human sacrifices head sliced from captives heads bouncing down the pyramid steps. This is what Mel Gibson was portraying about the Mayans.
In my research paper I will demonstrating how the movie apocalypto was in accurate in demonstrating the collapse of the Mayan civilization. In addition how was the reaction in Latin America and how the historians reaction towards the movie Apocalyto.
